About Us

At Calico, we believe cats are truly one-of-a-kind
Their uniqueness, individuality, and little quirks make them so special-and so deserving of a care experience that is tailor-made for them.
With that in mind, we care not only for your cat’s oral health, but also their physical and emotional well-being. Everything we do is intentionally designed to respect your cat’s natural behaviors, emotional needs, and instinctual desire for safety.
Because we know the best way to properly care for a cat is to treat them like one.

Our ApproachThe heart of Calico
Meet Dr. Erin Abrahams
Veterinarian Erin Abrahams, DVM, founded Calico on the heels of a highly successful referral-based dental service she launched in 2021 to provide cats, cat caregivers, and referring veterinarians with the highest-quality feline dental care. With her extensive experience in feline-only dentistry and an intuitive understanding of how cats perceive the world, Dr. Abrahams brings a level of expertise and empathy that many cat caregivers may not realize they and their cats need -until they experience it firsthand.
My veterinary career began over twenty years ago in receptionist and technician roles, where I discovered that the most rewarding aspect of my work was the meaningful connections shared with clients as we cared for their companions together. Supporting cat owners with empathy, education, and encouragement remains the cornerstone of my practice today.
My professional motivation is driven by a deep understanding of how chronic pain impacts feline health, a perspective that guides every clinical decision and recommendation I make. Many cats endure silent suffering from chronic, low-grade oral pain while appearing to live full and happy lives. It is often only after their dental disease is addressed that the significant impact on their mental well-being becomes clear.

Over the last decade, I have repeatedly observed both subtle and profound transformations in my patients once we eliminate existing pain and prevent future discomfort. Following treatment, my patients often experience greater enjoyment of their food, reinvigorated play, and increased bonding with their people. They gain a new lease on life, with a near guarantee of a comfortable and healthy mouth for the rest of their lives. This is my hope for you and your cat.

Our promise to you and your cat
Cats are our passion, and our mission is to provide them with expert veterinary dental care in a safe, supportive environment designed to meet their unique needs.
Patience and understanding
We take the time to understand you and your cat. Building a strong, trusting relationship sets the foundation for everything we do, and we never rush the process. We recognize that every cat has their own stress threshold and triggers, so we let them set the pace. This can mean taking short breaks, enlisting a favorite treat (did someone say Churu?), or discussing light sedation to safely complete our exam. In rare cases, we may stop and devise a plan with stress-reducing medication prior to a second visit.
A team approach
At Calico, you are a vital member of your cat’s care team. Our partnership begins the moment you first contact us and grows with every visit and phone, email, or text communication. Together, we explore possible treatment options and anticipated outcomes, and discuss the limitations of home care, to ensure you have the knowledge to make the best decision for your cat and your lifestyle.
Transparent communication
We believe in open, thorough, two-way communication. During your cat’s consultation, we listen to your concerns and expectations and answer every question so you understand the “why” behind our treatment recommendations. When it’s time for your cat’s dental procedure, we keep you informed with text and phone calls throughout their visit so you know they are safe and in the very best hands until you are reunited at the end of the day.
Advocacy for total health
It’s about more than just teeth for us. Our goal is not simply to treat the immediate dental issue, but to advocate for your cat’s whole body health. We think years ahead to anticipate and prevent future dental problems that can affect other organs, such as their kidneys or heart, or trigger total body inflammation. Whether it’s taking proactive steps to remove potentially problematic teeth, uncovering hidden systemic conditions during our pre-anesthetic workup, or recommending ongoing care to preserve oral health, we’re dedicated to protecting your cat’s health from nose to tail.
Reimagining the feline experience
Many cat caregivers don’t realize how cats experience a typical veterinary visit. Traditional environments may prioritize practicality and volume at the expense of feline emotional well-being - leaving cats with extreme stress, delayed healing, or behavior changes that can make caregiving difficult.
At Calico, everything we do is centered around your cat. From our first conversation, to how we greet your cat, to our clinic design, furniture, and equipment - every decision made and action taken is focused on creating a comfortable, safe, and supportive visit where your cat can be themselves.
Easing anxiety isn’t just kind, it’s also the key to better veterinary care. By alleviating veterinary-related stress as much as possible, we can provide a more thorough examination to give your cat the best care, and ultimately, the best outcome.
